Fluctuorization

Fluctuorization is a medicinal application of alternating low-voltage (under-100 V) current, fully or partially rectified, with chaotically fluctuating frequency (up to 2000 Hz) and amplitude (up to 3 mA/cm2). The least excitation is caused by symmetric current fluctuations, as changes in ion concentration of semipermeable membranes are, to certain extent, compensated by similar changes in ion concentration in reverse direction of the current. Aperiodic changes of excitation peaks increase annoyance and reduce tissue adaptation, as compared to periodic fluctuations of stable current amplitude. Partially rectified fluctuations are more efficient, while fully rectified fluctuations produce the strongest effect. The aforesaid different currents with their specific excitation characteristics, alike diadynamic currents, activate blood circulation and trophic processes in the area of application, give analgesic effect. Fluctuorization is mainly used in dentistry and for treating somatic diseases.

The specific effect of fluctuorizing currents is that no adaptation in tissues is generated during the entire process of application due to chaotic fluctuations. Fluctuorizing currents irritate intensively proprio- and interoreceptors, which is accompanied with painless synchronous contraction of myofibrils. At the same time, there appears insignificant increase of tissue temperature, hyperemia, which, in its turn, activates tissue trophics, phagocytosis, enzymatic activity and toxic substance extraction from inflammation areas, stimulates cellular immunogenesis. When treating a purulent inflammation area, fructuorization limits the spreading and regeneration. Post-operative applications benefit to prompter sloughing, wound cleansing, intensive regeneration. Granulation tissue formation and wound epitelization are accelerated. So, fluctuorizing currents can be applied for treating acute, including purulent, inflammatory processes.

Indications for use: Fluctuorization is primarily used in dentistry for pain relief due to exacerbation of chronic periodontitis, alveolitis, pulpitis, TMJ arthritis, glossalgia, in acute and exacerbated chronic inflammatory processes, including purulent (abscess, phlegmon, parodonthosis, etc.), actinomycosis. In addition, these currents can be used to treat pain syndromes caused by lesions of the peripheral nervous system (neuritis, neuralgia, radiculitis, ganglionitis, etc.), as well as in treatment of certain gynecological disorders of inflammatory origin.
